Description: This macrogroup occupies large extents of flat to gently sloping terrain, interrupted by isolated hills and rocky areas and mounds (koppies), and grading in the south to the steep slopes and mesas that are part of the Great Escarpment covered with large boulders supporting sparse dwarf Karoo scrub. The altitudinal range is from 1000 to 1900 m. The climate is of autumn and summer rains with 150-400 mm annual precipitation, with hot summers and incidence of frost in the winter. The vegetation structure is composed of dwarf-shrubs with small leaves and shrubby succulents mixed with grasslands and sometimes very scattered low trees. Typical shrub taxa are <i>Chrysocoma ciliata, Eriocephalus ericoides, Eriocephalus spinescens, Amphiglossa triflora, Aptosimum</i> spp., <i>Euryops</i> spp., <i>Pentzia globosa, Pentzia spinescens, Felicia muricata, Pteronia glauca</i>, and <i>Rosenia humilis</i>. Succulent shrubs are <i>Euphorbia hypogaea, Ruschia intricata, Brownanthus ciliatus, Drosanthemum ambiguum, Drosanthemum lique</i>, and <i>Galenia sarcophylla</i>, and graminoids include <i>Aristida congesta, Eragrostis bicolor, Eragrostis obtusa</i>, and <i>Stipagrostis ciliata</i>.
