Name: Southern Namibian Semi-Desert Scrub & Grassland Macrogroup
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This macrogroup corresponds to the Central Namib described in the Namib Desert ecoregion (WWF), a narrow strip of vegetation characterized by dwarf-shrubs such as Psilocaulon salicornioides, Zygophyllum clavatum, Salsola aphylla, and Salsola nollothensis. At rocky sites a variety of dwarf-shrubs grow, including Drosanthemum luderitzii, Ruschia sedoides, and Tetragonia arbusculoides, as well as the annual grasses Stipagrostis hermannii, Stipagrostis namibiensis, and Stipagrostis subacaulis. Inland from this strip of vegetation are vast gravel plains that are largely devoid of vegetation except for fields of colorful lichens. Widely scattered shrubs, mainly Moringo ovalifolia (African moringo), Euphorbia virosa, and species of Commiphora are also present on rocky outcrops on these gravel plains.
