Description: Also known as the Kaokoveld Desert, it extends from the Ugab River in Namibia northward into the coastal zone of southern Angola, including the Mossamedes Desert. For most of its length, it is about 60 km wide and extends inland from the Atlantic coastline; in part of its range, it is as narrow as 20 km (Skeleton Coast). Mean annual precipitation is less than 50 mm and falls in the summer. The landscape consists mostly of sand dunes sparsely vegetated by isolated plants of <i>Salsola nollothensis, Ectadium virgatum, Merremia multisecta</i>, and <i>Indigofera cunenensis</i> and the grasses <i>Stipagrostis ramulosa</i> and <i>Cladoraphis cyperoides (= Eragrostis cyperoides)</i>.
