Description:
Forests of the westernmost extension of the Guianan rainforest in Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela. The rainforests of the upper Orinoco basin, including the Caura basin in Venezuela, are dense tall forests with a rather open understory. Representative species are <i>Lecointea amazonica, Clathrotropis glaucophylla, Peltogyne venosa, Erisma uncinatum, Oenocarpus, Socratea, Leopoldinia, Ocotea</i> spp., <i>Nectandra</i> spp. The forests in the Colombian Guainia region are of lower stature and more interdigitated with white sand savannas and shrublands. In their composition the following species and genera are typical: <i>Eperua leucantha, Aldina macrophylla, Micrandra spruceana, Hevea, Qualea, Clusia, Eperua, Micrandra, Humiria, Ilex, Ormosia, Pradosia, Calliandra, Cladonia, Gustavia, Monopteryx</i>.
