Name: Valdivian Lower Montane Evergreen Forest Macrogroup
Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019
Description: This macrogroup represents communities of mixed evergreen and deciduous species that occur in the western foothills of the Coastal Cordillera (Nahuelbuta) and intermontane valley locations of temperate southern Chile, in the lake region in sites between the dominant Nothofagus obliqua deciduous forests and the waterbodies. In general these are tall, dense and mixed evergreen-deciduous forests, with a canopy 25-30 m high, rich in epiphytes and vines, usually dominated by Nothofagus obliqua with the lauroid species Laurelia sempervirens, Laureliopsis philippiana, Weinmannia trichosperma, Aextoxicon punctatum, Eugenia apiculata (= Luma apiculata), Podocarpus saligna, and Eucryphia cordifolia. In some cases Nothofagus dombeyi has a significant cover, as well as Chusquea quila in the understory.
