Description: Herbaceous communities along the extensive floodplains of the whitewater rivers of the lower Amazon Basin and its delta. These can be almost permanently inundated and the slightly higher ones, during 6-9 months. In seasonally drained areas the herbaceous vegetation communities include <i>Paspalum fasciculatum, Paspalum fluitans (= Paspalum repens), Echinochloa polystachya, Echinochloa spectabilis, Hymenachne amplexicaulis, Leersia hexandra, Oriza</i> spp., <i>Eragrostis</i> spp., <i>Symmeria paniculata, Salix humboldtiana, Alchornea castaneifolia</i>, and <i>Montrichardia arborescens</i>.
