Description: This macrogroup includes the sparse vegetation growing on steep and stony slopes and cliffs of the intermontane dry valleys in the Andes of Venezuela, Colombia and Ecuador on poor, eroded soils, above 2000 m elevation. Dominant genera include the succulents <i>Furcraea, Echeveria</i>, terrestrial xeromorphic species of <i>Tillandsia</i>, and the spiny <i>Puya</i>.
