Description: The macrogroup represents various types of vegetation developed on rock outcrops or very rocky montane slopes of the Peruvian and Bolivian Andes and dominated by rosulate bromeliads, small xeromorphic ferns, some epilithic orchids and cacti. Communities vary widely in their floristic composition depending on the climate and moisture availability across their distribution from 1900-4000 m elevation. Characteristic genera and species include <i>Cheilanthes, Pellaea, Notholaena, Echeveria, Elaphoglossum, Fourcraea, Pilea, Tillandsia, Peperomia, Puya ferruginea, Puya longistyla, Puya atra, Puya secunda, Corryocactus squarrosus, Corryocactus erectus, Echinopsis cuzcoenis, Gorgonidium vargasii, Spathantheum orbygnianum, Villadia orbygnianum, Cortaderia bifida</i>. In the higher altitudes common species are <i>Saxifraga magellanica, Woodsia montevidensis, Phacelia secunda var. pinnata, Lobivia maximiliana, Valeriana nivalis</i>.
