Description: The macrogroup represents emergent marshes distributed throughout the Mediterranean montane Andes in central Chile and west-central Argentina, above 2500 m elevation. They occur in poorly drained or waterlogged topographic depressions and margins of waterbodies. Characteristic species include <i>Juncus arcticus ssp. littoralis (= Juncus balticus), Juncus lesueurii, Carex gayana, Carex nebularum, Hordeum halophilum, Eleocharis albibracteata, Azorella trifurcata, Agrostis pyrogaea, Polypogon interruptus, Typha subulata, Schoenoplectus californicus, Phragmites australis, Ranunculus cymbalaria, Lilaeopsis macloviana, Hippuris vulgaris, Myriophyllum quitense</i>.
