Carex lyngbyei Herbaceous Vegetation
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.33915.CEGL003369
Western Ecology Working Group of...  0 From Kunze (1994): This community type occurs along the lower Columbia River, Washington, as far upriver as Fisher Island near Longview. It occurs on floodplains subject to daily freshwater tidal inundation and is typically laced with sinuous tidal creeks. The substrate is mud. This is a heterogeneous community type dominated by <i>Carex lyngbyei</i>. It forms narrow bands or extensive marsh flats. In some places examples of this community type have been degraded by grazing and invasion of <i>Phalaris arundinacea</i>, but in most cases it appears to be below the line of <i>Phalaris arundinacea</i> invasion. Additional species include <i>Bidens cernua, Boltonia asteroides, Caltha asarifolia, Deschampsia caespitosa, Eleocharis palustris, Equisetum fluviatile, Juncus oxymeris, Sagittaria latifolia, Sium suave</i>, and <i>Typha angustifolia</i>.

Pinus contorta - (Picea mariana) / Vaccinium vitis-idaea / Hylocomium splendens - Pleurozium schreberi Forest
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.27932.PINUSCONTORTAPI
Western Ecology Working Group of...  0 This matrix forest community is widespread in northeastern British Columbia, Alberta, and southwestern Yukon. It occurs on a wide variety of soils and parent materials where moisture levels are mesic to submesic (occasionally hygric) and nutrient regimes are commonly very poor to poor (sometimes mesic) in British Columbia and poor to medium in Alberta. These stands are characterized by a canopy of Pinus contorta var. contorta, often with Picea mariana, a moderate shrub layer of Ledum groenlandicum, and a dense cover of mosses dominated by Pleurozium schreberi with Hylocomium splendens and Ptilium crista-castrensis. The shrub layer often includes low cover of Rosa acicularis and Vaccinium myrtilloides. Other ground species commonly include a moderate cover of Cornus canadensis and Vaccinium vitis-idaea with lesser amounts of Linnaea borealis and Peltigera species.
