Salix amygdaloides Woodland
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.32429.CEGL000947
Western Ecology Working Group of... 0 This peachleaf willow woodland type is found in the northern Rocky Mountains and into northern parts of the western Great Plains. Stands occur in riparian areas, located in backwater areas and overflow channels of large rivers, on narrow floodplains of small creeks, and on the edges of ponds and lakes. Often it occurs in small isolated clumps adjacent to streams and rivers. The water table is usually within 1 m (3 feet) of the soil surface during the growing season, and the vegetation is tolerant of flooding. Salix amygdaloides associations may occur on a range of soil types, except heavy clays. It is most common on silty to sandy soils. It is tolerant of flooding and weakly saline or alkaline soils. Soils may be saturated to within 1 m (3 feet) of the surface during much of the growing season. The vegetation is dominated by Salix amygdaloides.

Juniperus scopulorum / Purshia tridentata Woodland
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.33777.CEGL000749
Western Ecology Working Group of... 0 This woodland association has only been reported from north-central Colorado in Rocky Mountain National Park and northern Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest. Stands are found on xeric, steep (50-100%), typically south- to west-facing slopes (one east aspect reported) between 2150 and 2600 m (7050-8520 feet) elevation. Substrates are well-drained, poorly developed, coarsely textured, thin soils derived from colluvial and residual parent materials of granite, gneiss and schist. The ground surface area has 40-50% cover of bare soil, exposed rock, and boulder outcroppings. The vegetation is characterized by an open to moderately dense tree canopy dominated by Juniperus scopulorum. Pinus ponderosa and Pseudotsuga menziesii may occasionally occur as scattered individuals. Purshia tridentata dominates the short-shrub layer with 15-25% cover. Rhus trilobata, Leptodactylon pungens, Rubus deliciosus, Artemisia frigida, and Opuntia polyacantha are shrubs that may be present with a cover of less than 2%. If present, Cercocarpus montanus and Artemisia tridentata cover is low (<5%). Forb and graminoid cover is usually higher than for other Juniperus scopulorum-dominated sites. Commonly associated forbs include Heterotheca villosa, Eriogonum umbellatum, Helianthus pumilus, Potentilla fissa (= Drymocallis fissa), and Artemisia ludoviciana. Common graminoids include Elymus albicans (= Elymus lanceolatus ssp. albicans), Carex rossii, Muhlenbergia montana, and Hesperostipa comata (= Stipa comata). Diagnostic of this Juniperus scopulorum woodland is the Purshia tridentata-dominated shrub layer.

Sagittaria lancifolia - Typha spp. - Ludwigia spp. Herbaceous Vegetation
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.33370.CEGL007894
Southeastern Ecology Working Gro... 0 This fresh flotant marsh type of the Chenier and Deltaic plains of Louisiana is dominated by Sagittaria lancifolia, with Typha spp. and Ludwigia spp. as the most common associates. It generally occurs inland from the oligohaline marsh types and is often interspersed with other fresh marsh types [see ~Panicum hemitomon Semipermanently Flooded Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL004665)$$]. Species richness in this marsh type is relatively high, especially in the Chenier Plain examples.

Pinus caribaea var. caribaea - Guettarda valenzuelana Forest
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.35540.CEGL008341
Southeastern Ecology Working Gro... 0 Humid lowland pine forest on ferritic soils, occurring on flat areas and along creeks, in Cajálbana. The close canopy is dominated by Pinus caribaea var. caribaea, with relatively strong participation of some broad-leaved tree species. The shrub layer is richer than the one occurring in the former association, whereas the herb layer is poorer. Characteristic species of this community are Guettarda valenzuelana, Guettarda calyptrata, Cyrilla racemiflora, Calophyllum calaba ssp. pinetorum, Gesneria ferruginea, Comocladia dentata, Rondeletia odorata, etc. DISTRIBUTION: West Cuba: Cajálbana.
