It receives only extreme storm (hurricane) tides. <i>Schizachyrium scoparium</i> or <i>Schizachyrium littorale</i> and <i>Spartina spartinae</i> usually codominate, though either may be locally more abundant. Other species include <i>Eupatorium serotinum, Paspalum vaginatum, Palafoxia texana var. ambigua</i>, and a diverse assemblage of others. Scattered shrubs, such as <i>Prosopis glandulosa var. glandulosa</i> and <i>Baccharis halimifolia</i>, can occur, especially as invaders as the result of grazing and/or fire suppression.

Woody species include <i>Quercus fusiformis, Juniperus ashei</i>, and <i>Quercus sinuata var. breviloba</i>. Grasses include <i>Tridens albescens, Tridens muticus, Muhlenbergia reverchonii, Schizachyrium scoparium</i>, and <i>Eriochloa sericea</i>. This community type is intermixed with the ~<i>Quercus fusiformis / Hilaria belangeri</i> Woodland (CEGL002116)$$ and ~<i>Quercus laceyi - Juniperus ashei</i> Woodland (CEGL002136)$$, and grasslands on wetter sites or to the west are dominated by <i>Schizachyrium scoparium</i>.

NatureServe Biotics 2019  0 This community is a saturated forest dominated by <i>Gordonia lasianthus</i>. It occurs in Florida and Georgia along poorly developed drainageways or in outer edges of floodplains, associated upslope with pinelands. Other trees present in the canopy and subcanopy include <i>Acer rubrum</i> and <i>Persea palustris</i>. Shrubs, including <i>Itea virginica</i> and <i>Cephalanthus occidentalis</i>, occur primarily on downed logs, stumps and <i>Osmunda</i> hummocks. The herb layer is generally dominated by <i>Woodwardia virginica</i>. Other herbs include <i>Peltandra virginica, Osmunda regalis var. spectabilis</i>, and <i>Osmunda cinnamomea</i>. <i>Sphagnum macrophyllum</i> occurs in water-filled depressions.
