» more details
accession code: VB.CC.36359.CEGL003999
Southeastern Ecology Working Gro...  0 Grass prairies on Big Pine Key, maintained by fire, with scattered shrubs of <i>Croton linearis, Morinda umbellata (= Morinda royoc), Senna mexicana var. chapmanii, Ximenia americana</i>, and other species recruited from nearby rockland hammocks. This is apparently a natural type, nearly lost by fire suppression, now partially restored by prescribed burning on the Key Deer National Wildlife Refuge. This community is important habitat for Key Deer (<i>Odocoileus virginianus clavium</i>).

Salix brachycarpa / Mesic Forbs Shrubland
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.21024.SALIXBRACHYCARP
Western Ecology Working Group of...  0 In Colorado, this riparian shrubland occurs on well-drained slopes in subalpine valleys. This association is often considered part of a Salix planifolia - Salix brachycarpa mixed type. However, these Salix brachycarpa-dominated stands occur on slightly drier sites and are often adjacent to wetter, pure stands of Salix planifolia. The two species intermix at the ecotone between the wetter and drier sites. The herbaceous layer is dominated by mesic forbs. Information on stands that occur outside Colorado will be added later.
