» more details
accession code: VB.CC.1741.A228 NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTED
EcoArt 2002  0 This alliance includes southern mixed hardwood forests with admixtures of ~Quercus alba$ and ~Fagus grandifolia$. Associations in this alliance include dry-mesic to mesic forests that typically occur on slopes and small stream bottoms in the Coastal Plain, and also in other adjacent physiographic provinces, including the southern part of Crowley's Ridge, Arkansas, and the Piedmont. This alliance is distributed primarily north of the distribution of ~Magnolia grandiflora$, but may also include stands within this range which lack a ~Magnolia grandiflora$ component. A diverse, often dense canopy is usually present, which may include ~Liriodendron tulipifera, Liquidambar styraciflua, Quercus michauxii, Quercus pagoda, Carya cordiformis, Fraxinus americana$, and ~Ulmus$ spp. In the southern part of the range, examples of this alliance may have ~Acer barbatum$ and ~Acer leucoderme$ in the subcanopy. A widely variable understory and shrub layer is usually present. Although the herbaceous layer is typically sparse, it may contain a number of species restricted, or nearly so, to rich mesic habitats.

Agastache urticifolia Herbaceous Alliance
» more details
accession code: VB.CC.20099.AGASTACHEURTICI
Western Ecology Working Group of...  0 This alliance occurs in subalpine meadows in the mountains of western Wyoming. Elevations range from 2040-2835 m. Sites vary from gentle to steep slopes with eastern to southwestern aspects, but are most often moderately steep mid to upper slopes. Communities in this alliance often have a patchy, moderately dense herbaceous layer that is dominated by perennial forbs. At least 10% cover each of Agastache urticifolia, Heliomeris multiflora, or Senecio serra is present in these stands. Other frequent forb associates include Eucephalus engelmannii (= Aster engelmannii), Geranium viscosissimum, Lupinus argenteus, and Delphinium X occidentale. The two most common graminoids are Elymus trachycaulus and Bromus carinatus. Scattered clumps of the deciduous shrub Symphoricarpos oreophilus are common, and occasional Populus tremuloides trees may also be present.
