Landscape Narrative ? Large mountaintop spruce stand with a ring of dog-hair surrounding a center with more open understories. Rhododendron maximum appears to be most confined understory dominant. One large hemlock seen, but spruce is strong dominant.;Mountaintop spruce stand less than 100 yrs old, mostly even-aged. This patch has Kalmia latifolia dominant in the tall shrub layer with extremely low diversity and cover in the herb layer. Lush carpet of Bazzania trilobata covers rocks, stumps and down wood. Sawn stumps in plot still discernable. May be slightly younger compared to 284, 285. Lots of spruce seedlings.
Representativeness ? Another variant of this fairly large "mature" spruce polygon as identified by USFS layer. This type is fairly extensive compared to plot MONF.285
