Isolated patch of spruce surrounded by mixed spruce and northern hardwood forests. To the S ca. 0.3 of a mile is the Shaver's Fork River. So far in the polygon we have seen PIRU/ PIRU, PIRU-mixed hardwoods and PIRU/KALA. In drainage NW of plot there were sphagnum seeps surrounded by dog haired spruce under mixed spruce hardwoods.;Even aged stand of Picea/Kalmia. The stand was aged by coring one of the average T2 trees. The tree is roughly 70 yrs old. Low diversity forest community. The forest floor is covered by a carpet of Bazzania trilobata. Well worn deer trail just out of plot. Deer browse on low shrubs, low branches of T2 spruce are dead. Only the top 1/3 of the trees have foliage. According to the width of the growth rings on the tree they grew well, the first 35 yrs the rings get very tight.

Large patch of Spruce forest over a dense shrub layer of Mt. Laurel. Similar to plot MONF.286 near Glade Run and an earlier plot near Gaudineer.
