Location Narrative ? Exotic annual grassland on west-facing slope above Stanislaus River, 0.5 miles south of New Melones Dam. Strip of vegetation at base of slope, Pinus sabiniana-Quercus wislizeni/Aesculus californica with several Ailanthus altissimus. Upper slope is 100% exotic grassland species with the exception of Amsinckia menziesii. Difficult terrain to traverse. Likely once a boulder strewn slope. Likely to have been heavy disturbance from road and powerline construction. Parent material appears to be serpentine, definite green cast to stone. Probably brought in to create road bed. Numerous small rocks visible imbedded in earth where slope has slumped.
