Plot located on north-facing slope of small drainage located between paved road leading to New Melones Dam and dirt road to east which runs N-S midslope along telephone lines. Quercus wislizeni dominant overstory tree with occasional Pinus sabiniana. Dense understory shrub layer. Herbaceous layer dense where there are openings in canopy. Plot runs down drainage with north edge close to south-facing slope of drainage. The south-facing slope is much more open with scattered trees and shrubs and a continuous herbaceous layer. Evidence of fire: charred, dead stump of Arctostaphylos manzanita.
