Location Narrative ? Open Aesculus californica stand on NW-facing slope overlooking Stanislaus River south of New Melones Dam. Stand is very open, Aesculus californica widely scattered, many <4 m in height. Stand bordered by Pinus sabiniana-Quercus wislizeni woodland. Understory largely annual exotic grasses and forbs and some native forbs. Slope rocky and steep with several large rock outcrops. Selaginella, mosses, lichens found on these outcrops. No tree within releve >4 m in height or with DBHs >10 cm.
