From Rt. 9 in Barnegat, turn onto Lower Shore Rd., then turn right on Mills Road. Park by gate, walk to end of road, then walk south to a fen. Cross this fen from the N to the S; go through Phragmites and woods.

Community Type: sea level fen
Community Description: Sea level fen, roughly 400' long by 50' wide, with long axis running N-S. Bordered on N by a narrow band of juniper-maple woods between it and another fen and by a dense stand of Phragmites; on the E by woods and Phragmites; on the W by red maple woods; on the S by a maple swamp. On the SE, a narrow band of Phragmites creates a disjunct section of fen on the shore of a pond. The big fen is relatively dry at the N end and gets progressivley more wet southward.
Fauna: ribbon snake, rough green snake, Southern leaopard frog, mud turtle, Spring peeper
