From Hampton Rd. at Hampton Furnace, cross Batsto Creek and continue 1.1 miles. Turn right towards High Crossing. Park at railroad tracks and follow tracks S about 200'. Ponds are adjacent to tracks on the N side.

Community Type: coastal plain pond (Cladium mariscoides / Juncus canadensis dominated community)
Community Description: Cladium mariscoides and Juncus canadensis dominated lower pondshore community found in the central zone (transects A & D) or between the Carex striata var. brevis community and the deeper water Muhlenbergia torreyana - Rhynchospora fusca (transect B) zone and Eleocharis zone (transect C). Zone has a fairly homogeneous mix of additional species including Saccharum, Panicum virgatum and P. longifolium (now Panicum rigidulum var. pubescens), and several forb species in low densities. Area is flooded at the time of this visit, with approximately 5-22 cm of water throughout. Adjacent pitch pine lowland has been recently burned in the past few years. The lobe of the western most pond, connecting to the smaller eastern pond is almost pure Cladium/Juncus with burnt trees and no other evident species.
