Observation Narrative
Plot centered at 15 m along transect from upland edge and situated in semi-open fen along the southern portion of Assowoman Creek wetland. Tall shrub/low tree vegetation extends from upland edge to 8 m. Fen vegetation extends from 8 to 21 m, at which point the fen indicator Sclerolepis uniflora drops out. The muck soils here are soft and saturated, but unlike Mutton Hunk Fen, which has permanent standing water, Assowoman Fen has standing water only in deer trail.
"Other" category in surface substrate consists of soft, saturated muck.
Soil sample collected.
Some shorter woody stems are included in estimate of woody cover in the 0.5-6 m stratum; this lower stratum was difficult to see and measure.
