Observation Narrative
Habitat is a convex, east-facing ravine slope downcut into Quaternary shell deposits. Vegetation is a dry-mesic hardwood forest with mixed overstory dominance by Carya cordiformis, Quercus muhlenbergii, and Liriodendron tulipifera. Acer barbatum dominates all lower woody strata. Noteworthy calciphiles occurring here include Ostrya virginiana and Eupatorium incarnatum. NOTE: plot size had to be limited to 300 sq. m. in order to capture homogeneous vegetation on this short and undulating slope.
