Observation Narrative
Very small area of Dry Calcareous Forest on steep slope above pond. Slope above sample is dominated by Pinus taeda - Liriodendron tulipifera. Over all this slope is mostly Mesic Mixed Hardwood with the Dry Calcareous Forest occurring as small patches (like sample) on noses of south-facing slopes. Several trees in sample are down from hurricane. Canopy is mostly shorter trees with a few emergent stems.
0-1 cm uneven coverage of loose deciduous leaf litter
1+ cm reddish brown clay loam - eroded areas of bare soil and eroding slopes with exposed shell hash
