Observation Narrative
The plot in a foot slope stand of young yellow birch (Betula allegheniensis), which regenerated following railroad logging in the 1920s. Some birch die back was evident and around the plot. The presence of sugar maple (Acer saccharum), beech (Fagus grandifolia) and red spruce (Picea rubens) in the small tree and shrub layers suggest future successional development. Measured trees in plot (dbh in cm.): Prunus serotina (56,52), Betula allegheniensis (31,26), Acer rubrum (32).
