Observation Narrative
Overall stand is dominated by Carya cordiformis with a well-developed subcanopy of Cercis canadensis and local dominance of Viburnum prunifolium. Large Oaks are scattered in the canopy - Quercus muhlenbergii and Quercus pagoda with scattered Liquidambar styraciflua. Juniperus virginiana occasionally reaches the canopy, but not enough to label stand at "mixed". Celtis and Morus occur sporadically in the subcanopy within stand. Ilex opaca is common in the subcanopy and tall shrub layer. Asimina is occasional . Herbs are very scattered - ground cover is leaf litter or dense vines of Parthenocissus, Campsis radicans, and Lonicera japonica. This stand is adjacent to pond and beaver browse is evident. Undoubtedly disturbed in the past but stand is unique for the Park.
