Description: This grassland alliance is known only from stands in the rolling plains of southeastern Montana. Stands from Colorado in the ~Schizachyrium scoparium$ Herbaceous Vegetation association (former CEGL001680) were recently merged with an association, ~~Schizachyrium scoparium - Bouteloua curtipendula$ Loess Mixedgrass Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL002036)$$, in the ~~Schizachyrium scoparium - Bouteloua curtipendula$ Herbaceous Alliance (A.1225)$$ leaving a single association, ~~Schizachyrium scoparium - Carex inops ssp. heliophila$ Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL001682)$$. The moderate to dense herbaceous layer is dominated by the medium-tall, warm-season bunchgrass ~Schizachyrium scoparium$. The shorter graminoid, ~Carex inops ssp. heliophila$, typically codominates. Perennial forbs generally have sparse cover but may be relatively diverse. Annual forbs and grasses may be seasonally present.
