Name: A.1611
Reference: EcoArt 2002
Description: This alliance is found in subalpine meadows in the mountains of western Washington. Stands occur between 1350-2000 m elevation on east- to northeast-facing, moderate-gradient slopes. Soils are young and poorly developed, due to erosion and lack of weathering. A moderately dense cover and a fairly diverse flora of herbaceous species characterize stands; 30 species is the average number per stand. ~Valeriana sitchensis$ and ~Carex spectabilis$ dominate the herbaceous canopy. ~Lupinus arcticus ssp. subalpinus, Polygonum bistortoides, Ligusticum grayi, Potentilla flabellifolia$, and ~Carex nigricans$ are the most common forb and graminoid species.
