Description: Vegetation in this alliance occurs on rocky talus slopes in the alpine tundra in the Colorado Front Range. Stands are found in the lower subnival zone, the area just below permanent snow and ice, on north-facing aspects, on gentle- to moderate-gradient, unstable, moving scree slopes. The ground is covered with rocks that are snow-covered in winter. Soils are young and poorly developed, and the majority of the ground surface is covered with rock. The vegetation in the alliance occurs as patches in mesic microsites between the rocks. The herbaceous layer is sparse. ~Senecio taraxacoides$ and ~Oxyria digyna$ are the dominant species, with ~Besseya alpina, Cirsium scopulorum$, and ~Senecio fremontii var. blitoides$ the most common associates. The cryptogam cover is sparse; ~Hypnum revolutum$ is the most common moss species, and ~Cladonia pyxidata$ is the most common lichen present.
