Description: This alliance includes essentially monospecific ~Nelumbo lutea$ communities, in either natural wetlands or in artificial impoundments, sometimes with scattered ~Cephalanthus occidentalis$. Other floating-leaved aquatic plant species that may be present include ~Nuphar lutea ssp. advena$ and ~Nymphaea odorata$. In shallow depressional wetlands in the Coastal Plain of Florida, ~Nelumbo lutea$ occurs in an admixture with ~Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani (= Scirpus tabernaemontani), Pontederia cordata, Juncus effusus, Typha latifolia, Eichhornia crassipes$ (alien), ~Hydrocotyle$ spp., and seasonally with floating aquatics, such as ~Salvinia minima, Spirodela$ spp., ~Lemna$ spp., and ~Azolla caroliniana$.
