Description: This plant association occurs on gently to moderately sloping stream terraces at elevations between 1500 and 2000 m. The overstory is usually dominated by Populus angustifolia with occasional codominance by Acer negundo. Acer grandidentatum creates a low tree layer. Shrubs are typically sparse and may include Mahonia repens, Paxistima myrsinites, or Symphoricarpos oreophilus. Herbaceous cover is variable and common species include Osmorhiza berteroi (= Osmorhiza chilensis), Maianthemum stellatum (= Smilacina stellata), Elymus glaucus, and the exotic grass Poa pratensis.
