Description: Stands of this association occur on canyon slopes at high elevations (above 5000 feet) in the Chisos Mountains of Trans-Pecos Texas and possibly adjacent Mexico. Characteristic canopy dominants include the evergreen Pinus cembroides and Juniperus flaccida with the deciduous Quercus gravesii. Other evergreen Pinus spp. (Pinus arizonica), evergreen Juniperus spp. (Juniperus deppeana, Juniperus coahuilensis), deciduous Quercus spp. (Quercus graciliformis), as well as evergreen Quercus spp. (Quercus grisea, Quercus tardifolia) may be present. Characteristic herbs include Salvia regla and Piptochaetium fimbriatum.
