Name: Salix brachycarpa / Mesic Forbs Shrubland
Reference: Western Ecology Working Group of...
Description: In Colorado, this riparian shrubland occurs on well-drained slopes in subalpine valleys. This association is often considered part of a Salix planifolia - Salix brachycarpa mixed type. However, these Salix brachycarpa-dominated stands occur on slightly drier sites and are often adjacent to wetter, pure stands of Salix planifolia. The two species intermix at the ecotone between the wetter and drier sites. The herbaceous layer is dominated by mesic forbs. Information on stands that occur outside Colorado will be added later.
