Description: This alliance consists of bayheads with open canopies, typically in the 'downstream' or 'tail' portion of tree islands in the Shark Slough drainage of the Everglades. Canopy trees include ~Magnolia virginiana, Persea palustris, Chrysobalanus icaco, Salix caroliniana, Ilex cassine, Morella cerifera (= Myrica cerifera)$, and ~Annona glabra$. Similar to tropical bayheads [see I.A.3.N.f] but with an open canopy and a much better-developed herbaceous stratum.
