Description: This mixed-conifer/hardwood association occurs locally in southern Oregon and possibly northern California. Elevations range from 760-1220 m (2500-4000 feet). Soils are well-drained sandy loams, sandy clay loams, and silt loams underlain by granitic, dioritic, or sandstone parent material. The dominant overstory trees are Pseudotsuga menziesii, Pinus lambertiana, and Chamaecyparis lawsoniana with 35%, 14%, and 25% cover, respectively. Understory trees include Tsuga heterophylla (5%), Abies concolor (5%), and Chamaecyparis lawsoniana (5%). Important shrubs are Quercus sadleriana (33%), Gaultheria shallon (51%), and Rhododendron macrophyllum (32%). Typical herbs are Linnaea borealis (10%) and Chimaphila menziesii (1%).
