Description: This association includes woodlands occurring along the upper Gulf Coast of Texas north of Galveston Bay on the Ingleside barrier-strandplain, a Pleistocene barrier ridge. The canopy is dominated by Quercus virginiana. The patchy understory contains Ilex vomitoria, and Prunus caroliniana which may also reach into the canopy. Schizachyrium scoparium grasslands are often intermixed with these woodlands.
