Name: Schoenoplectus acutus - Carex lasiocarpa Herbaceous Vegetation
Reference: Eastern Ecology Working Group of...
Description: This association occurs in standing water on the shores of lakes in limestone regions, and is dominated by the tall bulrush Schoenoplectus acutus (= Scirpus acutus). Associates include Carex lasiocarpa, Typha angustifolia, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, and Schoenoplectus tabernaemontani (= Scirpus tabernaemontani). Aquatic plants such as Utricularia minor, Utricularia intermedia, Lemna spp., and Menyanthes trifoliata often form an 'understory' below the bulrushes and cattails. This vegetation is currently known from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Jersey and is possibly present in the limestone regions of New York and Pennsylvania.
