Description: Communities within this alliance are found along drainages in habitats that are seasonally flooded and saturated with freshwater along ditches, floodplains, lake edges, and low-gradient deposits along rivers. Elevations range from 768-1518 m in Utah and sea level to 1700 m in California. Adjacent upslope communities are typically ~Quercus gambelii$ and ~Pinus$ spp. Soils information was not available. Communities within this association are characterized as cold-deciduous, temporarily flooded woodlands. The tree subcanopy is dominated by at least 40% cover of ~Salix laevigata$. The tree subcanopy also includes 10-40% cover of ~Platanus racemosa, Populus fremontii, Fraxinus velutina$, and ~Alnus rhombifolia$. The shrub layer ranges from 5-20% cover and typically consists of ~Baccharis pilularis$ and ~Sambucus mexicana$ in California and ~Baccharis salicifolia, Salix exigua$, and ~Rhus trilobata$ in southern Utah. Information was not available for the herbaceous layer.
