Description: This is a minor plant association with a widespread distribution including mid to upper elevations throughout the Rocky Mountains. The association is found in meadows, on lower toeslopes, and on benches or terraces in broad valley bottoms. Salix wolfii creates a dense, low overstory with Dasiphora fruticosa ssp. floribunda (= Potentilla fruticosa) frequently present. Deschampsia caespitosa is the diagnostic graminoid with up to 10% cover. A diverse mix of other graminoids and forbs are usually present, including Juncus balticus, Danthonia intermedia, Phleum alpinum, Potentilla gracilis, and Senecio integerrimus.
