Description: This community is reported in the southern Great Plains of the United States. Stands are described as a mixedgrass prairie type, with a scattered tree layer. The dominant tree species is Juniperus virginiana. Dominant grasses include Schizachyrium scoparium and Bouteloua curtipendula. This type may be essentially synonymous with a mixedgrass prairie type, the Schizachyrium scoparium - Bouteloua curtipendula Red Hills Herbaceous Vegetation (CEGL002248). Further review is needed to determine the characteristics of this type.
