Description: This woodland is apparently restricted to xeric sandstone and acid shales of Cumberland ridges. Its canopy is dominated by Quercus prinus. The understory consists of Cornus florida, Amelanchier arborea, Quercus spp., Carya glabra, Carya alba. The shrub layer is not strongly ericaceous, but does have Vaccinium pallidum. Pityopsis graminifolia var. latifolia is prominent in the herb layer.
