Description: This forest of the Tennessee Ridge and Valley is strongly dominated by Fagus grandifolia, which contributes from 50-75% of the total canopy cover. Other species which may occur in the canopy are Acer saccharum and Quercus rubra. The subcanopy and tall-shrub layers contain Acer saccharum, Fagus grandifolia, and Carya spp. Some characteristic herbs include Polystichum acrostichoides and Tiarella cordifolia.
