Description: These are tidal forests, dominated by Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Ulmus americana, Acer rubrum var. trilobum, and including Persea palustris and Pinus taeda. The subcanopy is dominated by Persea palustris and canopy species. The shrub layer is dominated by Morella cerifera (= Myrica cerifera), Juniperus virginiana var. silicicola, Baccharis halimifolia, and Toxicodendron radicans ssp. radicans. This community occurs in a repeating and predictable pattern in upper reaches of tidal streams in the Coastal Plain of North Carolina.
