Description: This association occurs on upland rises in the lowest terrace of coastal flatwoods in the Florida parishes of Louisiana. Examples typically support an open canopy of Pinus palustris. Shrub and midstory layers are generally absent in high-quality, well-burned examples. The understory has a well-developed herbaceous layer dominated by grasses. Typical herbaceous species are Schizachyrium scoparium, Muhlenbergia expansa, Helianthus radula, Schizachyrium tenerum, Gaylussacia dumosa (= var. dumosa), Lobelia brevifolia, Chaptalia tomentosa, Xyris caroliniana, Carphephorus odoratissimus, Aristida purpurascens var. virgata, Pityopsis graminifolia, Solidago rugosa, Solidago odora, Symphyotrichum adnatum (= Aster adnatus), Tephrosia onobrychoides, Eryngium yuccifolium, and Aletris aurea.
