Description: This woodland association is found in the Organ Mountains in south-central New Mexico and is likely to be found elsewhere in southern New Mexico and Arizona. This type is known to occur at mid-elevations around 3000 m (7400 feet), along rocky channels of moderate gradient (2-3%). It is a closed-canopy forested wetland dominated by Acer negundo with Fraxinus velutina as a subdominant in the canopy. The abundant shrub understory includes Symphoricarpos oreophilus, Ribes montigenum, Ptelea trifoliata, and Brickellia grandiflora.
