Description: This giant forest association is found in the Klamath Mountains in southern Oregon and may also occur in California. Elevations range from 700-1130 m (2300-3700 feet). Sites are on northeast to northwest aspects with slopes averaging 54%. Soils are derived from metavolcanic, schists, metasediment, andesite and basaltic parent material. <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii</i> is the only tree to occur at most sites. The tree understory is characterized by <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii, Arbutus menziesii</i>, and <i>Acer macrophyllum</i>. The shrub layer is typified by <i>Mahonia nervosa, Rosa gymnocarpa</i>, and <i>Corylus cornuta var. cornuta</i>. Herbs include <i>Trientalis borealis ssp. latifolia</i> and <i>Prosartes hookeri</i>.
