Description: This association occurs in the coastal mountains of Oregon and possibly northern California. Stands occur at elevations of 540-1115 m (1780-3660 feet) on all aspects and slopes, but are commonly associated with flat sites at the upper third of slopes. These forests are characterized by a very shrubby understory. <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii</i> and <i>Chrysolepis chrysophylla</i> dominate the upper canopy layer. Important understory trees are <i>Pseudotsuga menziesii</i> and <i>Notholithocarpus densiflorus</i> (10%). Other important plants include <i>Rhododendron macrophyllum, Mahonia nervosa</i>, and <i>Gaultheria shallon</i>.
