Description: This association includes woodlands occurring along the upper Gulf Coast of Texas north of Galveston Bay on the Ingleside barrier-strandplain, a Pleistocene barrier ridge. The canopy is dominated by <i>Quercus virginiana</i>. The patchy understory contains <i>Ilex vomitoria</i>, and <i>Prunus caroliniana</i> which may also reach into the canopy. <i>Schizachyrium scoparium</i> grasslands are often intermixed with these woodlands.
