Name: Tsuga heterophylla - Picea sitchensis - (Thuja plicata) / Polystichum munitum - Tiarella trifoliata Forest Reference: NatureServe Biotics 2019 Description: This small-patch forest community occurs on rich circum-mesic sites in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia at elevations from 0 to 350 m on the leeward side of the Queen Charlotte Ranges. It is characterized by a moderately closed canopy dominated by <i>Tsuga heterophylla</i>, a sparse understory of shrubs and herbs, and a well-developed moss layer dominated by feathermosses with some leafy mosses. The forest canopy is dominated by high cover of <i>Tsuga heterophylla</i> with moderate cover of <i>Picea sitchensis</i>. A moderate cover of regenerating <i>Tsuga heterophylla</i> with low cover of <i>Vaccinium parvifolium</i> and <i>Menziesia ferruginea</i> characterizes the shrub layer. The poorly developed herb layer includes low cover of <i>Blechnum spicant, Athyrium filix-femina, Tiarella trifoliata, Dryopteris expansa, Maianthemum dilatatum, Huperzia haleakalae</i>, and <i>Moneses uniflora</i>.
