Description: This community is very restricted in range, occurring only in Brunswick County, North Carolina, where it is the main wetland <i>Pinus palustris</i> community in an region of perhaps 200-300 square km. <i>Pinus palustris</i> dominates the open canopy. The shrub layer is strongly dominated by <i>Leiophyllum buxifolium</i>, or <i>Vaccinium crassifolium ssp. crassifolium</i> may codominate. Other shrubs, such as <i>Ilex glabra</i>, may also be present. <i>Aristida stricta</i> is sparse to dense. <i>Pleea tenuifolia</i> is often an herb-layer dominant. Other typical species include <i>Polygala</i> spp., <i>Rhexia</i> spp., <i>Xyris jupicai</i>, and <i>Drosera intermedia</i>.
